About the Series
2017
This series of paintings involves a more experimental process of pouring paint to establish the ground and superimposing images of singular flowers that are all grown on our property in southern California. Each painting is intended to proclaim the individuality and splendor of each flower. Simultaneously, I am interested in revealing the vulnerability of a single bloom with its delicate petals and wavering stalk. The flowers appear to perform with elaborate headdresses while bowing, twisting, vocalizing, spewing pollen, and sweating droplets. The paintings are oil and acrylic on birch panels and range in dimensions from small to large scale.
